Edelstein at New England Base Camp

As we entered into our 50th anniversary year here at Edelstein, we announced our participation in five larger scale community service events to commemorate one per decade that we have been in business. On June 21st, we participated in the MSCPA Day of Service at New England Base Camp. Our group of nearly 20 volunteers took part in the following activities to ready the camp for the summer months:

  • Organized various tools and equipment to be sent to other camp sites in New Hampshire,
  • Dug holes for fence posts and helped construct an entrance to the camping area,
  • Painted cabins, and
  • Weeded and mulched the facility.

Until a year and half ago, this camp was solely a boy scouts facility. It is now also open to the public as they have expanded their services to become a public community camp. New England Base Camp works closely with other organizations to bring inner city children, youth, and families to the camp throughout the year to experience nature and provide outdoor educational experiences. Their educational programs align with the Common Core and support Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks with a STEM program designed to provide hands on learning. Over 20,000 people participate in camp and activities during the year.

We had a great day and encourage you to check out our Facebook page to see more pictures.

Thank you to all of our team members that took part in this activity and to our partner chair, Kerry Johnson.  Be sure to stay in touch with us as we have more coming up this year to celebrate our anniversary, including two more community serving events.
